Ronald “Ron” Wacome, 78, of Liscomb, Iowa passed away peacefully at his home on December 10, 2025—just where he wished to be. Born on June 4, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa. Ron leaves behind a legacy of hard work, service, and deep devotion to his family.
On January 28, 1971, Ron was united in marriage to Karen Schumann—beginning a partnership that lasted 54 years until her passing just two months ago. The two made a beautiful couple, deeply devoted to one another, and he missed her dearly.
A proud veteran, Ron enlisted in the United States Army on September 6, 1966, and served honorably until his discharge on September 5, 1972. He held the rank of Private E-1 and served as an MP Police Officer and AWOL Transport Officer, including service in Okinawa during the Vietnam War.
Ron graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines. He later completed training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s 77th Basic-Academy on March 26th, 1982. He was known throughout his life for his straightforward nature and lived by his familiar motto: “Don’t lie to me, follow the rules, and we will get along just fine.”
Ron’s work life varied and was fulfilling. He began his early years as a siding applicator and later worked for John Deere and the Railroad. His commitment to public service grew as he served as a small-town police officer in Liscomb, Gilman, and Colfax. He also served on the Marshall County Sheriff’s Reserves. Ron ultimately retired from the State of Iowa 2nd Judicial District as a Residential Officer, a role in which he was known for his diligence and dedication.
In his personal life, Ron was a stern presence softened by time and love. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a strong cup of black coffee, and a bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch. He loved gathering with family and friends, taking trips to the casino with the love of his life, Karen, and spending time with the family he was so proud of. Ron had a lifelong passion for deer hunting—always searching for the “big one”—alongside his group of friends and sons-in-law. He also enjoyed fishing for crappie at Lake Red Rock and camping with Karen.
Ron is lovingly remembered by his children: Kibby (Mark) Collins of Radcliffe, RaDonna (Kent) Bracy of Liscomb, and RaeLee (Brad) Wall of Liscomb; his grandchildren: Kasie (Clay) Roberts, MaKenzie Collins, Mitchell Collins, Kayla Elam, Raychyl (Jordan) Wilson, Madysen Wall, and Tucker Wall; and his great-grandchildren: Aleighia, Aumriee, Aquinnah, Aytahna Jo, NovaLeigh, Hemi, Aspen, Brooklynn, Braxton, Emma, Daxton, Payton, Westlyn, Rhett, and Hazel. He is also survived by his brother, David Wacome.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen Wacome; and his brother, Tommy. His family finds comfort knowing he is reunited with them.
Visitation will be held on December 14, 2025, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will follow on December 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m.
Ron Wacome will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory lives on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared so generously.
