Ronnie H. Briggs of the Iowa Veterans Home passed away peacefully on Monday, July 30th, one day after his 69th birthday. Public visitation for “Ron” will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Ron’s family will be present to greet friends. Military Honors will take place at 7:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed in Ron’s name to his family. Ronnie Harlan Briggs was born on July 29, 1949 in Marshalltown, Iowa the son of Merle “Pedro” and Edith (Cross) Briggs. He attended Marshalltown schools and went onto honorably serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later married Debra Coleen Slifer Briggs. The two later divorced but from this union they raised three wonderful children. Ronnie worked at Marshalltown Trowel and later at Swifts, Party Pac Popcorn and Preferred Cartage. He was a proud life time member of the VFW. Ronnie had a passion for racing, bingo, hunting, fishing, camping, watching WWE wrestling and the Animal Planet. He also treasured the time spent with his family including his children and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Mike Briggs of Marshalltown, IA, Tonia (Sean) Mast of Marshalltown, IA and step-son, Craig Slifer of Iowa City, IA; grandchildren: Cody Mast, Gunnar Mast, Drake Slifer, Dayton Slifer and Caden Slifer; siblings: Kathie (Jim) Speas of Marshalltown, IA, Bonnie (David) Menter of Marshalltown, IA, Kevin (Elizabeth) Briggs of Dover, FL, Denise (Russ) Navara of Springdale, AR, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Merle and Edith Briggs; ex-wife: Debbie; nephew: Scott Speas and his dog, Belle.
