Ronnie Gist

Ronnie Sylvester Gist, 66, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Unity Point in Marshalltown.   Memorial services for Ronnie will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Ronnie and his family.   Ronnie Gist was born on October 2, 1952 in Paducah, Kentucky. He was the son of Ruth Stunson. Ronnie received his degree in Applied Science Computer Network Management in 1997 at Marshalltown Community College. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1971until 1973. On September 23, 1975, Ronnie was united in marriage to Cathy Henderson.  Ronnie worked at Fisher Controls for 18 years, Prairie Meadows for 2 years, and retired from MMSC from the IT department after 10 years of service. He also ran a small computer repair business. Ronnie enjoyed anything to do with computers and especially enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.   Ronnie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathy. Children: Ronnie J. Gist of Iowa City, Tremayne Gist of Des Moines and Ashley (Mark) Haley of Waterloo. Grandchildren: Sophie Gist of Cedar Rapids and Christopher and Xavier Haley of Waterloo. He is also survived by his sisters: Willa Wilson of Philadelphia, Sandra (Grant) Hughes of Paducah, Kentucky, Vanessa Jordan of Memphis, Tennessee, Rose Cooper of Memphis, Tennessee and Denise Wyatt of Marshalltown along with numerous aunts, uncles and other family members.   Ronnie is preceded in death by his mom, Ruth, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family.
