Rosa Davis, 89, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation for Rosie from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 29 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Rosa was born in Marshalltown to Leland Uhde and Francis (Collins) Uhde on September 2, 1933. She started as a waitress in 1949 at the East End Sandwich Shop on East Main Street. That is where she met her husband Russell Davis and they were married October 15, 1951. When her first of six children was born, she then was a stay at home mother until Russ and her bought a bar in Wellsburg, Iowa in 1963 until 1966 when they sold it. It was called Davis Tap.
She then went back to work for her mother at Smitty’s Coffee Shop in Smitty Grocery Store. In 1967 she went to work at Swifts and retired from there in 1982. From 1983 to early 1985, her husband, son Gary and herself had the Galaxy Arcade on West Main Street. She was known by hundreds of kids as Mom. After they closed up she went to work at Captain Anthoney’s until they closed in 1987.
Rosie then worked for OJ’s Diner then Monica’s on Main Street until she closed, then back to OJ’s until 2018. She was almost 85 years old when she quit for good.
She is survived by her children: daughter Debbie Davis at home, son Gary Davis at home, Beverly (John) Krueger of Marshalltown and Sherry (Larry) Betts of Marshalltown; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and one brother, Myron (Jan) Uhde of Conrad.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell; son Michael and infant son Terry Lee; her parents Leland Uhde and France (Collins) Uhde; brother Frank (Karen) Uhde, sister Verginia (Jerry) Carlson and infant brother Leland Uhde; and inlaws Perry & Geeva Davis.
