E. Rose Church, 89, of Marshalltown, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Villa del Sol with her family by her side. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations go to Iowa River Hospice or to the donors charity of choice. Emma Rose Swearingen was born on November 9, 1919, in Clemons, Iowa. She was the daughter of Walter and Lela (Davis) Swearingen. Rose moved to Elkader as a child and to Marshalltown while in First Grade. She was a proud member of the Marshalltown Class of 1939. On May 8, 1941, Rose married Boyd Church in Princeton, Missouri. She spent all of her adult years as a housewife. Rose and Boyd spent many happy years with their pickup truck and 5th-wheel trailer camping and spending winters in Florida. Rose was a member of TOPS 200 for many years, belonged to the Moose Lodge, and enjoyed needlework, crafts, playing cards, and gambling. She is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Boyd, of Marshalltown; her 3 grandchildren; her 2 step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Dennis; her daughter, Susan; her brothers, John, Paul, Cecil, and Howard; and her sisters, Mae Scheffert, Margaret Lewis, Wilma Weitzell, Loreene Springer, Floreene Innis, Louise Leonard, and Lela Belle West.
