Rose Marie Mann, 75, passed away the evening of October 17, 2009 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Rosie and her family. Funeral services for Rose will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown following the service. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20th from 5 to 7p.m. Rosie was born December 8th, 1933 in Buck Grove, Iowa, the youngest child of two children to Jack and Beulah (Bausman) Perry. In 1947, her father retired and sold his creamery business in Buck Grove. The family then relocated to Parkersburg, Iowa where Rosie attended school. She was a drum majorette and cheerleader, and graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1951. She was very proud that her father presented her with her high school diploma, as he was president of the school board at that time. After graduation, Rosie traveled to Minneapolis, MN to attend one of the first flight attendant schools. She enjoyed her time in the big city as documented by the many letters she wrote home to her mom about her adventures. A year later, at her mothers request, Rosie declined an offer with Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia, and returned home to her family and friends in Parkersburg. It wasnt long before she moved to Marshalltown to attend nursing school. In 1955, Rosie graduated as salutatorian, once again, of her nursing class at the Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing. On October 8, 1955 she married Cliff Stalzer at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown; they later divorced, but remained friends and coworkers. On November 2, 1973 she married Paul Mann at the Methodist Church in Laurel. For almost 30 years, Rosie worked part-time as a Registered Nurse. Her early years were spent in the obstetrics department, and then from 1968-1984, in the emergency room at MMSC. In 1984, she retired from nursing and joined her sons at Stalzers Furniture, working there until May of this year. If you ever called out to the store, it was probably Rosie that answered the phone. She always enjoyed running in to former patients and their families at the store; as they always had a good story to tell and were always grateful for the loving care she had provided them. Rosie enjoyed spending time at the furniture store with Scott and Jason, basking in the sun on her deck, listening to KFJB radio, going to garage sales, playing a mean game of 500 (she bid on every hand), and reading the Times Republican while sipping her Coca-cola. She was also an avid Hawkeye fan and a staunch Democrat, flaunting her Obama pin wherever she went.Rosie is survived by her husband of 36 years, Paul Mann; her children, Sandy (Tim) Ridout; Shelley (Bob) Backes; Scott Stalzer, all of Marshalltown; John Stalzer of Tama; Jason (Kim) Stalzer of Marshalltown; Matt (Tiffany) Mann of Denver, Colorado; two step-daughters, Paula (David) Myhre of Brownsburg, Indiana; Laura (Dennis) Malloy of Barrington, New Hampshire; 6 grandchildren; Jillissa (Tom) Handorf of Gladbrook; Jeremiah Ridout; Emily (Charley) Herrin of Austin, Texas; Bethany Backes; Anna Grace Backes; Luke Stalzer; and great-grandsons, Jorell and Maxxon Handorf; and her beloved dog, Mickey.Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Beulah Perry; her brother, Jack Perry Jr. and his wife Jean; father-in-law, Gilbert Mann; and mother-in-law, Pauline Mann.Memorial contributions may be made to the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with designations made to either the Flower Baskets on Main St. or the Disabled American Veterans.
