Rose M. Fick, age 75 of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Per Rose’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. There will be no formal services held at this time. Burial will be in Center School Cemetery in Marshalltown.
Born Roseanna Marie Fick on July 8, 1949 in Jefferson, IA, the daughter of John L. and Maxine Marie (Murphy) Fick. Rose faced many challenges in her early life, but always did what she had to in order to make it through.
Rose had become a part of the CIRSI family, back when CIRSI first opened in the mid ‘70’s. She was feisty and prided herself in being an independent woman. Together CIRSI and Rose realized that independent living rather than group housing would best suit Rose’s needs, and she began to thrive in her own apartment. Rose met so many friends that became her family over the years – staff at CIRSI, friends around Marshalltown and friends at her apartment complexes.
Rose worked at a restaurant as a dishwasher, was a part of the CIRSI maintenance team and delivered the Times-Republican Pennysaver – through all her jobs, she became a familiar face to many and made several lifelong friends.
Rose was a good cook and loved to host her CIRSI friends for Thanksgiving (even though her apartment was cramped, it was important they all came over). Rose knew when she needed help and she would call a friend to assist in whatever the challenge was.
Rose was resilient, spunky, blunt and had a huge heart, even though she was selective on who could be her friend. She loved kids and animals. Rose had a dog, Micah, years ago and that’s how she ended up meeting many friends of hers to this day; She would take her dog to visit the children CIRSI homes. Rose also adored cats; She had two of her own in recent years, Tabitha and Jack. Rose would go to her friend’s store, Create A Keepsake, where she would paint every ceramic cat in stock, as well as other keepsakes she would gift to friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her father, John Fick; and her beloved animals, Micah, Tabitha and Jack. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends that have loved her like family.
Memorials may be directed to CIRSI or the Animal Rescue League, as both organizations were near and dear to Rose’s heart.
