Mary Rosella Rosie Diggins, 78, of Marshalltown, died Thursday morning, June 5, 2008, at the MMSC while in their care, the Iowa River Hospice and her loving family. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9th, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday with a 7:00 p.m. Council of Catholic Women Rosary and public vigil service. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born Mary Rosella Hughes on February 4th, 1930, in Delmar, Iowa, she was the daughter of Frank and Ella (Thornton) Hughes. Shegraduated from the Mt. St. Clair High School in Clinton in 1948. She received her LPN degree in Marshalltown. On September 26th, 1950, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, she was united in marriage to Harold T. Diggins. They made their home in Marshalltown where she was employed at the Mercy Hospital, the Evangelical Hospital and the IVH, retiring in 2001 after 23 years of faithful service. Mrs. Diggins was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, the St. Marys Council of Catholic Women, the Chain Gang and Rusty Hinges at the YMCA. She enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening, flowers, canning, baking, camping and watching the Chicago Cubs on WGN. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tom (Sheila) Diggins of Cedar Rapids, Karen Smith of Des Moines, Craig (Lori) Diggins, Mary Diggins, Mike Diggins, Brian Diggins, Steve (Lisa) Diggins, Amy Fiser all of Marshalltown and Dana Diggins of Ames, 27 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents Frank and Ella, her husband Harold Diggins, son Harold Diggins, Jr. in infancy, granddaughter Amanda Digginsand great-grandson German Ruiz, Jr.
