Ruby Christine Brittain

Ruby Christine (Kjormoe) Brittain, 86, passed away at Southridge Nursing Home on Saturday, April 5, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. A public visitation will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on April 8, from 5-7p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday April 9, 2014, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with cremation to follow. In memory of Ruby, the family requests attendants bring their favorite dessert recipe to the services to later be made into a memorial cookbook. Ruby was born to Omar C. and Lillie M. (Harem) Kjormoe in Dunbar, Iowa, on August 18, 1927. She later graduated from Dunbar High School. Ruby was unified in marriage on May 1, 1954, to William James Lyle. They later divorced and she remarried Eldon A. Brittain on October 29, 1982, and divorced in 2005. Ruby was actively involved in her community holding membership in many groups such as the Hope United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose Lodge, and, the Red Hat Society. Ruby was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Fidelity Bank, and Marshalltown Instruments until their closure. Ruby enjoyed spending her winters in Arizona, as well as working with stained glass and other crafts. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Cindy (Mike) Hanken of Marshalltown, Iowa; Teresa (Jerry) Tichy of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren: Amy (Chris) Bland, Serena Tichy, Jared Tichy; great grandson, Presley Bland; siblings: Dorothy Dobson, Mildred Lathrop, Betty Altmeire, Richard Kjormoe, and Gary Nordurft. In death, Ruby rejoins her parents; sisters, Norma Hauser, and Sandra Shelton; and three brothers who died in infancy.
