Funeral services will be held for Ruby Walker Richeson at 11:00 a.m. on November 28, 2015 at Rhodes United Methodist Church in Rhodes with Reverend Karen Garrison officiating. Ruby will be laid to rest in the Eden Cemetery at Rhodes. Ruby was born in LaPorte, Iowa to John and Hattie Walker. On May 16, 1936 she married Gerald (Pete) Richeson and from this union they had two wonderful and loving sons, Melvin and Jerry. Pete and Ruby were members of the Rhodes United Methodist Church for many years. She loved working with the ladies of the church in preparing luncheons, helping with VBS, and wherever she was needed. She also was a member of Rebecca Lodge 362. In 1995 she received a certificate recognizing 50 years of membership. While living at home, Ruby was a dedicated gardener. She loved to work outside planting and then harvesting so she could share her crop with family and friends. In April 2015, Ruby moved to Lafayette, Louisiana to live with her son, Jerry, and his family. They were able to spend seven wonderful memory-filled months with her. Together they engaged in many activities which were enjoyed by all. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband and son, Melvin, as well as her parents. Also preceding her in death were her 14 brothers and sisters: Carl, Clayton, Earl, Donald, Johnnie, Merle, Paul, Ervin, Bert, Gordon, Dorothy Clement, Mary Hilmer, Hazel Parks, and her twin, Ruth Walker. One of Rubys greatest joys was her family, especially her many grandchildren. She loved their visits and going to see the various activities they were engaged in. Survivors include one son, Jerry and his wife Ardella (Amy) Richeson; three grandchildren: Cindy Ward and her husband Rick of State Center, Iowa, Tammi Ryan and her husband Rusty of Chester, Maryland, and Lynn Landry and her husband Louis of Erath, Louisiana; seven great grandchildren: Matt Ward, Misty Wengert, Forrest Ryan, Sommer Faro, and Lyndsay, Kristina, and Trey Landry; seven great great grandchildren: George and Greta Wengert, Quentin and Page Ward, and Laila, Briana, and Gayge Ryan. Ruby was a loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She was a friend to all who knew her. Everyone was blessed by her sweet soul. God has gained an angel. We love and will miss her. Pallbearers will be Phil Walker, Rick Ward, Matt Ward, Tom Wengert, Rick Clement, and Doug Ellis. Visitation will be at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Avenue West, Marshalltown, Iowa between the hours of 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015.
