Ruth Benbow, 96, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday February 6th, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 12th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Burry officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following in the hospitality room of the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in the Green Mountain Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Marshall County Historical Society Taylor #4 Country School or the Grimes Conservation Farm. Born on January 28th, 1911, in the Minerva area of Marshall County, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Martha Page Maxfield. She attended school at Clemons and graduated from Albion High School in 1929. She attended Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls and taught in schools in Marietta, Bangor and Timer Creek townships and later in Albion. On February 27, 1935, she was united in marriage to Robert Benbow. They resided in Marshalltown most of their married lives. Mr. Benbow passed away on March 16, 1972. Ruth was an active member of the Congregational Church at Green Mountain and later, as a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, serving in many capacities. Left to celebrate her life are her loving children, two daughters and four sons. They are Virginia (Steven) Stockdale of Iowa Falls, IA, Janice (Larry) Collins of Green Mountain, IA, Charles (Kaye) Benbow of Fresno, CA, Donald (Jane) Benbow of Marshalltown, Rev. John (Mary) Benbow of La Jolla, CA and Wayne (Connie) Benbow of Arvada, CO. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, a sister, Doris Maxfield of Marshalltown and sister-in-law, Bessie Maxfield of Marshalltown. In death she has rejoined her beloved husband, Robert, her parents, two sisters, Mildred Airey and Alice Maxfield, four brothers, Clifford, Fred, James and William Maxfield and two grandchildren.Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 12th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.
