Ruth M. (Heng) Kunkel, 86, of LeGrand, Iowa died Monday, December 31, 2012 at Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehab in Marshalltown, Iowa.Memorial services for Ruth will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Evangelical Free Church in Marshalltown. The phone number is 641-844-1234.Ruth Maxine Heng was born August 8, 1926, in Gilman, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Driftland) Heng. She was raised in the Gilman area and graduated from Gilman High School in 1943. Ruth was united in marriage to Ray Kunkel on October 7, 1947, in Dunbar, Iowa. She was employed by the post office in LeGrand, the LDF schools as well as the C&NW railroad. Ruth was very pleased that she and Ray were one of the three couples who started the Evangelical Free Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 65 years Ray Kunkel; one son, Paul Kunkel and his wife, Claudia Lively Kunkel of Phoenix, Arizona; three granddaughters: Dr.Susan M. Kunkel, Laurie A. Kunkeland Pamela J.Kunkel; and one sister, Doris Thompson.Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ann Hale; one brother, Ed Heng; one niece, Kay Doane; and a brother in law, Harry Thompson.
