Sammie Guthrie, 81, of Nashville, TN., died late Thursday night, January 31,2013, in the peace of her daughters home in Marshalltown. Her death came peacefully at 11:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Nashville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the West Harpeth Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville immediately following the service. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Friday and one-hour prior to the services at the funeral home. There will be no Iowa services. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with caring for Sammie and her family. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on December 2, 1931, in Nashville, she was the daughter of Samuel D. and L. Corinne (Pentecost) Ackerman. She received her education in the Nashville schools, graduating from Cohn High School in 1951 and later attending Lipscomb University. In 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Worsham. He died in an auto accident in 1959. In 1982, she was married to H.B. Bart Guthrie and they shared nearly 24 years of marriage until his passing in 2006. Mrs. Guthrie was employed as a church secretary at Hendersonville Church of Christ and then for South Central Bell as a sales clerk. During her 81 years, faith was the foundation of her life. She was a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ, the Hendersonville Church of Christ, Madison Church of Christ, Rivergate Church of Christ and most recently Bellevue Church of Christ all in the Nashville area. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Peggy (Forrest) Watts of Marshalltown, her grandchildren- Dr. Melissa (Dr. Jonathan) Crowder of Greenville, NC, Courtney Watts currently at Lipscomb University and Austin Watts currently at Iowa State University, her step-children- Gyni Guthrie (David) Garner of Charlotte, NC, Michael (Linda) Guthrie of Waddington, NC, step-grandchildren- Andrea Guthrie of Charlotte, Jen Guthrie (Mitch) Huber of Columbus, Ohio, Ben Garner of Nashville and great-grandson Max Huber; her siblings- Helen Ackerman (Louis) Demonbreun, Frankie Ackerman (Jim) Boyte and John Ackerman as well as many nieces, nephews, church family and friends. In death, she rejoined her beloved Robert and Bart, her parents Samuel D. and L. Corinne Ackerman, sister Emma Mai Miller, brother William Willie P. Ackerman, grandson Douglas Watts and great-nephew Chip Demonbreun.
