Samuel Ross Scafferi, Jr., age 86 of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at The Willows of Marshalltown.
Per Samuel and his family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and no formal services are scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department – Bike Path Fund, in memory of Sam Scafferi. Contributions should be mailed directly to:10 W. Samuel Ross Scafferi Jr. was born on August 16, 1939, the son of Samuel and Cecile (Dupont) Scafferi. He grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, and graduated from Marshalltown High School with the Class of 1957. Sam proudly served his country in the United States Army, a period of service that remained an important part of his identity throughout his life. On February 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Barbara Lee (Wilcox) Scafferi at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. They shared many years together before later divorcing in 2005. Samuel worked as a senior system analyst for Fisher Controls until his retirement in 1996. Outside of his professional life, he was a dedicated ham radio operator, a hobby he pursued with skill and enthusiasm. In his free time, Samuel found joy in a wide range of hobbies, from riding bicycles and Harley‑Davidson motorcycles to gold panning, flying RC model airplanes, golfing, photography, and painting.
Samuel is survived by his two daughters, Deb (Joel) Rohne of Northwood, IA, and Pam (Scott) Ferriss of Marshalltown, IA; his two grandchildren, Ross Sederburg and Mary Rohne; his brother, Carl (Becky) Scafferi of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Cecile, and by his former spouse, Barbara Scafferi.
