Sandy’s Life SongSandra “Sandy” Osborn, age 78, of Marshalltown passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 16 at Unity Point Hospital.  Her family will have a visitation from 5-7 P.M. on Saturday, June 27 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home to celebrate the life of Sandy.  To share a condolence or with questions, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Sandra Kay was born in Marshalltown on June 9, 1942 to parents Antone “Tony” and Virginia (Foster) Nelson.  She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Osborn on June 7, 1980 in Marshalltown. Music was a huge influence in her life.  As a child, she enjoyed tap-dancing with her sister, Pat.  By age 12, she performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and cut a record.  Sandy could play almost every instrument she picked up: guitars, bass, drums, piano, and even the accordion.  She could hear any song and immediately be able to play along or sing it. Her favorite music was country western and rock n roll.  Sandy loved singers like Kay Wells, Loretta Lynn and Hank Williams Sr.  She played with the Larry Moon band and won prizes at the KIX101 talent contest at the fairgrounds.  In her free time, if she wasn’t singing she could be found gardening and fishing. Sandy loved her family and could make anyone feel like they were a part of her family.  She always had a safe and busy home and you couldn’t leave the house without a hug.  Many kids, including but not limited to her own, loved Sandy and called her mom or “Ma Stevens.” She absolutely adored her grandkids.  She loved her dogs Toby and Bobo.  Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Jerry; her children: Richard “Rick” (Lora) Stevens, Gary Stevens (Lori Small), Robin Stevens and Kathy Romag; many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her brother Robert “Bob” (Bonnie) Nelson. Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Tony and Virginia, son Jeff Stevens, granddaughter Tosha Stevens, sister Pat Whitmore and brother Richard “Rick” Nelson.
