He received his education in the area of his birth. Though life took him on different journeys, eventually landing in Iowa, he was always a Kentucky boy at heart. We know he had “Blue Moon of Kentucky” ringing in his heart as he left this earthly life.         Saul served our country honorably in the United States Army 2nd Armored Division stationed in Germany. He did basic training at Ft. Knox and Ft. Leonard Wood. He was employed in different fields in his lifetime. He lastly was working at Stylecraft Furniture in Spirit Lake and earlier in Tennessee where he was a charter employee who moved there to help start their factory. He was a valued member of the Knights of Columbus as a Third Degree Knight.          Mr. Spencer was married to Barbara, and even though their paths divided, she was still a huge part of his life and the mother of his two daughters and one son. Saul was of Catholic faith all of his life and deeply loved animals. His longtime companion, Millie, made her home and last days at the IVH alongside Saul.         Left to cherish his memory are his children Kate Klimesh of Spillville, Debbie Wiersma of Spencer, his former wife Barbara of Spillville, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and siblings Jim, Elsie, Arthur, Raymond and Benny.         In death, Saul rejoined his parents, son Danny Whitfield, and faithful companion, Millie.
