Savitri Sharma, 84, of Marshalltown, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at her home, while surrounded by her loving family. Private family services for Savitri will be at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Savitri was born March 17, 1928 to Kesra Devi and Pandit Mathura Das Lakhanpal in Punjab, India. She was raised and educated in India. Savitri was married to Ravindra Nath Sharma in 1948. As they raised their children Neera and Rajen, they lived in New Delhi, India; Nairobi, Kenya; and Rome, Italy and the United States. They lived in New York for twenty-five years before moving to Marshalltown in 1990 to be closer to their children. Savitri was a loving and caring mother and grandmother to her family. She enjoyed sewing and spending time at home. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family and was especially fond of cooking many family meals for them. Savitri is survived by her husband, Ravindra Nath Sharma, of Marshalltown, her children: son Rajen and daughter-in-law Sheila Sharma and daughter Neera and son-in-law Dr. Pradeep Sarswat, both of Marshalltown, her grandchildren: Neal Sarswat of Minneapolis and Dr. Nitasha Sarswat and her husband Dr. Amit Pursnani of Boston, Massachusetts, her brothers: Satya Pal Sharma and Raj Pal Sharma both of India as well as several nieces and nephews. Savitri was preceded in death by her parents and her two elder sisters; Sheela and Leela.
