Scott Gibson, 45, of Des Moines, Iowa, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at his home. Visitation for Scott will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Funeral services for Scott will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013. Burial will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Scotts name to the St. Jude Childrens Research Foundation. Scott was born May 24, 1967, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Larry and Margaret (Bailey) Gibson. He was raised and educated in Marshalltown graduating from the Marshalltown High School in 1985. Scott honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1987 1991 and spent time aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. During the time of his service to our country Scott was stationed in Tennessee, San Diego and Oxnard, California. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Scott attended school at the DeVry Institute in Chicago, Illinois, and was later employed by Motorola in Chicago for over ten years. Scott then moved to Key West, Florida where he resided until moving back to Iowa in 2005. Scott was employed with the United States Postal Service in Des Moines at the time of his death. Scott enjoyed athletics and especially liked the Chicago Cubs, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas City Chiefs and horse racing. He was a fan of Elvis Presley and also enjoyed traveling to several different horse racing tracks throughout the country. Scott was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. Scott is survived by his mother: Margaret (Steven) Simmons of Marshalltown, his siblings: Bradley Gibson and Traci (Kevin) Vaughn both of Marshalltown and his step-sister Stephanie (Troy) Kammerdiener of Penrose, Colorado, his best friends: Paul Montover and Gary Sargent; his nephews: Larry Prusha and Bailey Gibson; his nieces: Stephanie Ward and Kayti Ingebritson; and his step-nephew: Tanner Kammerdiener; five great nieces and two great-nephews. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Larry Gibson; his uncle, Harrison Bailey; and his grandparents: Wilbur and Edna Bailey and George and Mildred Gibson.
