Sharon Kay Brooks

Sharon K. Brooks, 78, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Pine Acres Rehabilitation and Care Center under the care of Sun Crest Hospice.

Services for Sharon will take place on Friday, December 30 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Ave W., in Marshalltown. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A visitation will take place one hour prior beginning at 1:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation. Born Sharon Kay Peshel on February 17, 1944 in Iowa City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph and Cora (Mishler) Peshel. She grew up in Central Iowa, graduating from Garwin High School in 1960. After meeting the love of her life, Dennis Brooks, the two were united in marriage in Marshalltown on April 15, 1962. The couple called Marshalltown home until they moved to Tacoma, WA in 1986 and returned to Iowa to reside in Ankeny in 1997.

Sharon worked at Morning Sun in Tacoma, WA, Coopers Manufacturing and JBS – Swift in Marshalltown and Techna Plase in Ankeny. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, playing 500, Cribbage, Nine Hole and other board games and hosting events like birthdays and Christmas. Sharon also enjoyed visiting Branson, MO.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 60 years, Dennis; her children: Sallie (Mark) Martin and Michael Brooks, both of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren: Bailey (John) Morain, Heidi (Michael) Sharp, Abby Martin (Annie Cochran), Deven (Chealse) Brooks and Britny Brooks (Cameron Baker); six great-grandchildren: Hayley, Gavin, Cameron, Isabell, Jackson and Rhome; her siblings: Lois Johnson of Waterloo, IA and Karen (Duane) Speicher of Cedar Rapids and her beloved pet, Cassie.

In eternal life, she is reunited with her granddaughter Hannah Rae Martin, her parents Joseph and Cora, brothers Paul, Herb (Karen) and Larry (Bev) and her brother-in-law Bob Johnson.
