Born Sharon May Olson on October 20, 1940 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the youngest child of Clifford and Myrtle (Bryngelson) Olson. Sharon grew up in Lamoille, where she attended country school and enjoyed playing basketball. She then transferred to Marshalltown High School for her senior year, graduating with the Class of 1958. Sharon was blessed with two daughters and worked at Fisher Controls before moving to the Des Moines area.
Sharon met the love of her life, Julian Carrillo, at the church they were both attending. On Christmas Eve 1974, they were united in marriage at a friend’s home in Ankeny. They moved to several different communities for Julian’s job, including Cedar Rapids, St. Paul, and Parker, CO. They settled down in West Des Moines, where they have since called home. Sharon was an excellent homemaker and known for her cooking, especially her famous chicken and noodles and French silk pie. She was always happy to donate a pie or two for her granddaughter’s bake sales. Faith was a very important part of Sharon’s life. She played piano for the Worldwide Church of God and was an active member of Grace Church.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Joan and Doris; brothers, Howard, Carroll and Robert; and brother-in-law, Chuck Johnson. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Julian; children: Jennifer (Brent) Meier of Holiday Lake, Martha “Marty” Thomas of North Carolina, Tal Bracha (Hoshea) Allen of Israel, and Candida “Candy” Carrillo of the Twin Cities; grandchildren: Owen and Anthony Thomas, Olivia Moore, Andrew Meier, Ashley Smith, Breanna Wickett, Chaim and Baruch Allen; several great-grandchildren; her sister, Jean Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
