Sharon "Squirt" Johnson

Sharon “Squirt” Johnson, age 63, of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare, where she resided. Sharon Lynn, better known as “Squirt,” was born September 6, 1956 at St. Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown to parents George Franklin Jr. and Irene Mary (Tight) Johnson.  She attended Pleasant Hill school. Squirt absolutely loved music.  From a young age, she could play anything on the keyboard by ear.  She would pretend to be a DJ, announcing a song before playing it on her portable record player. She loved to sing and her favorite singer was Donnie Osmond.  She even named a tree “Donnie” after him.  Her love of singing lasted her whole life.  Squirt would sing for the employees and residents alike at Grandview Heights.  They called her their “cheerleader” and made her a shirt that said “Music Goddess.”  When she wasn’t singing, Squirt was reading Archie books or cheering on her favorite team, the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Gary (Sandy) Lurvey, David Johnson, Rick Johnson and Mary (Larry) Wegner; nieces and nephews: Deanna (Steve) Hayden, Brenda Lurvey, Susan Lurvey, Becky Morrison, Greg (Deanna) Bracy and Kenny (Nikki) Johnson; many great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Ethyl Lurvey; and her “Granddoggy” Bailey. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, George and Irene; her brothers Loren Lurvey and Wayne Lurvey; and her sister-in-law Virginia Johnson.
