Sherrill worked several office jobs over the years, including deputy auditor at the Poweshiek County auditor’s office in Montezuma and as school secretary at West Branch Junior High. She was also the owner and operator of Sherrill’s Ceramics in Union. Sherrill’s faith was very important to her and she was an active member of the West Branch Methodist Church and a member of the Union Community Church. She loved to golf and was a member of the South Hardin Rec Area.
A highlight of the many golf tournaments she played in was winning the state and regional tournament in a four-lady format to play in the American Cancer Society National Golf Championship at the Doral Golf Resort in Miami, FL. Sherrill excelled in the individual-format and played golf many years at the Sunland Springs Village Golf Course (Mesa, Arizona) winning the Women’s Club Championship in 2008. Ray and Sherrill played golf in 26 states en route to visit their families, which they enjoyed very much.
Sherrill cherished her family and was saddened to not be able to live closer to all of them. Everyone was always welcomed into her home with good food, charming hospitality, and lively conversations. She rarely knew a stranger!!
Left to mourn is her husband of 70 years, Ray; children: Diane (Jim) Lutz of Mesa, AZ and Steven (Marlene) Anderson of Apex, NC; daughter-in-law Vicki Anderson of Conrad, IA; grandchildren: Jennifer (Russell) Copersito, Stacey (Andrew) Bell, Teresa (Ryan) Huffman, Kyle Lutz, Kory Lutz, Claire Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson; great-grandchildren Giada, Nicholas and Luca Copersito, Anderson and Corinne Bell, Everett and Mallory Huffman; brother-in-law Clark (Cherri) Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
