Sherry Grigg

April 22, 1954 — January 27, 2023

Sherry Grigg, 68, of Whitten, Iowa, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on the evening of Friday, January 27, 2023 surrounded by her family.


At this time cremation rites have been accorded and a family led celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the First United Church of Christ in Marshalltown, Iowa beginning at 11:00 A.M.. Sherry Elaine Purvis was born April 22, 1954 to parents Clarence and Delores (Allen) Purvis in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She attended school in Marshalltown and later would graduate from Marshalltown High School in the Class of 1973.


On December 15, 1973, Sherry was first united in marriage to Richard "Rick" Karsjen and were married until the time of his passing. On August 20, 1982, she was united in marriage to Kevin Grigg in Kirksville, Missouri. Together they made a family of their own and raised their two sons Kyle and Zachary "Zach." They were part of many communities over the years living in Kirksville, Missouri, Moses Lake, Washington, Beaman, Iowa, Liscomb, Iowa and Whitten, Iowa among others. Sherry worked as a CNA for the Iowa Veteran’s Home and Villa Del Sol Nursing Home and later worked as a department manager at Walmart in Marshalltown until her retirement.


She was a member of the Beaman Methodist Church, Beaman Flower Club and spent many years involved as a Den Mother for her sons' Cub Scouts pack. In her free time, Sherry enjoyed attending rodeo and bull riding events, concerts, shopping and thrifting, collecting knick-knacks, spending time in her garden, traveling with her family and spending time with her great nieces and nephews.


She is survived by her husband, Kevin Grigg; her son, Kyle Grigg; her siblings, Rod (Karen) Purvis, Pam (Freeman) Ohrt, Bonnie (Jeff) Somers, Connie (Tom) Stanley, Steve (Jennifer) Purvis, and Roberta Hadley; her sisters-in-law, Vicki (Paul) Buti, Terry (Donald) Moore, and Shelly May; alongside numerous nieces and nephews and her fur babies, Chewy, Otis, Max and Rowdy.


She is preceded in death by her first husband Rick Karsjen; her son, Zach Grigg; her parents, Clarence and Delores Purvis; her brother, Allen Purvis; her brother-in-law Richard Hadley; and her mother and father-in-law Earl and Dorothy Grigg.
