Sherry Karns, 51, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services for Sherry will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Sherrys family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Sherry and her family. Sherry Bergman was born on July 25, 1965, in Anchorage, Alaska. She was raised her mother, Barbara (Damin) Lynott. When Sherry was 19 her mother met Jack who soon became Sherrys step-dad. She attended school in the Sleepy Hollow, New York school district graduating from Sleepy Hollow High School. On August 23, 1986, she was united in marriage to Kent Karns in Dallas, Texas. They lived in Dallas for a bit, but soon moved to Sleepy Hollow, New York. Later the couple moved to Marshalltown, Iowa where they called home. From this union two daughters were born, Nicole and Heather. Sherry was a hard working woman dedicating her time to her family and her job at the Times-Republican where she worked in customer service. Sherry had a passion for her family and spending time with them, playing bingo, garage sales and playing video games on her phone. Left to cherish Sherrys memory are two daughters, Nicole (Rodolfo) Avila and Heather (Kellen Nail) Karns; her grandchildren: Kristopher, Nicolas, Gionni, Easton and Maleiah; special friend, Steve Wadle; and a brother, Matthew Bergman. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kent; her mother, Barbara Lynott; step-father, Jack Lynott; and brother-in-law, Kelly Karns.
