Please refer to the obituary below for the correct date of death.* Shirley Jeanne Adkins, 94, of Waco, Texas, passed away at Providence Village on November 5, 2021. She was a former resident of Marshalltown, Iowa and Eldon, Missouri. Memorial services for Shirley will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials in Shirley’s name may be directed to Providence Hospice 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco, Texas, 76710. Shirley was born on March 5, 1927, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the third of five children born to Ben and Ferne (Stipp) Eide. She was educated in the Marshalltown Schools. On September 6, 1947, she married James A (Deb) Adkins in Marshalltown. The couple had three children, Debbie, Jim, and Steve. After several moves with the Air Force, the family settled in Marshalltown where they raised their children. In 1975 Shirley and Deb moved to the Lake Ozark area where Shirley worked for the Missouri State School until retirement. Their final move was to Waco, Texas, in 2002. After Deb’s passing and spending several years in retirement, Shirley wanted to work again and was employed at Chick-Fil-A in the Richland Mall, where she retired for the last time at the age of 90. She loved her Chick-Fil-A, both coworkers and customers, and they loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Deb; son, Jim; brother, Burton; eight sisters-in-law; and 11 brothers-in-law. She is survived by her three sisters, Evelyn Faruzzi of Los Angeles, Betty (Eldon) Friis and Beverly Thompson, of Las Vegas; sisters-in-law, Pat Adkins and Joann Wall of Marshalltown; daughter, Debbie (Rick) Duhrkopf of Waco; son, Steve (Tammi) Adkins of Joplin Missouri; and daughter-in-law, Carol Adkins of Indiana; grandchildren, Matt (Jennifer) Oetker of Ankeny, Iowa, Keri (Joseph)Lippe of Denton, Texas, Jamie (Katie) Adkins of Marshalltown, Iowa, AJ (Mindy) Davis of Indiana, Lori Vajgrt of Kentucky, Tyler Freeman, Cara Bland, Eric (April) Campbell, Leta Hardee, Glen (Stephanie) Hardee, Audrey Waldon, and Raedeana Warden all of Missouri; and 25 great-grandchildren. Shirley had a gentle and kind spirit, always had a smile and a kind word for everyone, and was a positive role model for all who knew her. Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She will be greatly missed.
