Shirley Joan Bloom, 84, of Laurel, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Villa del Sol Nursing Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. The family also requests casual attire. Shirley McCoy was born on October 7, 1930 to Denny and Florence Wiese McCoy in Tama County. Shirley graduated from Montour High School in 1948. On September 11, 1948, Shirley was united in marriage to John Bloom in Montour. In Shirleys working years she was always in management. She was the manager of the printing department at GT&E retiring in 1987, as well as managing her own detasseling crew. Shirley also worked part time in the Laurel school in the kitchen as well as at Fareway for 4 to 6 years. Shirley also was the president of the Laurel library board for the last few years. In her free time, Shirley liked to crochet and fish. She was also an artist and would paint wildlife pictures. Shirley was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church. Left to cherish Shirleys memory is her husband of 66 years, John. Children: Denise, Deborah, Jane, Judy, Sheryl and John. Daughter in law: Ann Dee. Grandchildren: Craig, Christen, Angela, Teresa, Melissa, Will, Holly, Patrick, Margaret, Mechelle, Aurora and John. Nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way. Shirley is also survived by her sister Norma Hensing. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; Denny and Florence brothers: Morris, Max and Merle, grandchild Justin and two son-in-laws: Richard and Craig
