Shirley Mae Dunn

Shirley Mae Dunn, age 85, passed away at Lincoln Meadows Assisted Living in Parker, Colorado on February 28, 2016. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Shirley and her family. Shirley Mae Hibbs was born on April 22, 1930, in Marshalltown, Iowa; she was the only daughter of Charles and Marvel (Wells) Hibbs. Shirley attended school in the Albion School District graduating with the class of 1947. On October 26, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Frank Dunn at the Albion United Methodist Church. She worked as a teller at Commercial State Bank and later as a branch manager at Brenton Bank in Albion, Iowa. Shirley loved to cook and was an avid gardener, she spent her summer months canning and helping Frank on the farm. Shirley and Frank loved to travel by car and see the country. Their travels took them through all 50 states, with the culmination of their travels being a 6-week road trip to Alaska. Shirley and Frank retired and moved to Marshalltown and also purchased a winter home in Mesa, Arizona. Shirley was very active in the Marshalltown community, as a member of the 500 Card Club, the Camping Club and the Leorian Club. Shirley spent the last three years in Colorado where she was close to her daughter. Shirley will be greatly missed. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Renae, brother Donald Fisher, grandchildren; Chad, Chris and Emily Dunn, Angie Hickman, and great-grandchildren; Olivia, Caley, Lillian, Andrew and Michael Dunn, Paige Cole and Jace Hickman. Shirley is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years Frank, her son Walter, her parents Charles Franklin and Marvel Edra Hibbs, and her four brothers; Max, Berle, Merle and Richard.
