Shirley Joan Gohring

Shirley Gohring, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the afternoon of Monday, August 29, 2022 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, Iowa. At this time cremation rites have been accorded and private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials in Shirley’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Shirley Joan Cheville was born on January 18, 1937 to parents Roy and Thelma Cheville in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was one of three children born. Shirley attended school in Marshalltown and later graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1954. Shirley called Marshalltown her home for many years and where she raised her six children. She worked for MICA and Mid-Iowa Workshop for a number of years but then stayed at home to take care of her home and raise her family. In her free time, Shirley enjoyed to do puzzles, watch her favorite crime TV shows, wrestling, and football. She ultimately loved to be at home and spend time with her family. Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Del Fisher, Rose Johnson, Randy Pitzer, Ronnie Gohring, Jerry Gohring, and Mike Gohring; her 13 grandchildren; her numerous great-grandchildren; and her sister Connie Cheville Searcy. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Thelma Cheville and her brother Wendell Cheville.
