OBITUARY OF SHIRLEY FAYE COOPER HALL

1-19-1930 – 12-19-2023

Shirley was born on January 19, 1930 to parents Francis Clyde and Nellie Cooper of Toledo, Iowa. She was the youngest of 5 children, having 1 brother (Russell) and 3 older sisters (Velma, Neva, and Marjorie). Shirley graduated from Toledo High School as Valedictorian. She met her husband, Allen Hall and they married on October 22, 1949. They were married for 43 years before Allen passed away and they had three children, Marilyn, Jane, and Steven (Kelli). They lived within the Marshalltown/Garwin area their entire life. Shirley loved to do puzzles, read, play cards with her good friends, golf, traveling and crochet. She first worked at Bacon Services as a bookkeeper, Milts Diner in the 60’s, then went on to work in the clerk’s office at the Marshall County Courthouse, then worked for many years at McGregor’s Furniture, where she worked until she retired.

Shirley was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother. She was Grandmother to 15 Grandchildren: Lane (Nina), Scott (Candace), Benjamin (Liz), Jason, Rachel (TJ), Luke (Kayla), Crystal, Wendy (Dan), Sam (Jenny), Sarah (Darson), Kyle (Deena), Brandon (Jenn), Isaiah, Kaitlin (Darin), and Kenan. She was a Great Grandmother to 32 Great Grandchildren, and she was a Great-Great Grandmother to 2 Great-Great-Granddaughters and 2 Great-Great Grandsons. She loved each and every one of them so much and they loved her so much, and we will all miss her terribly.

Shirley passed away in her sleep the morning of December 19, 2023, just one month shy of her 94th birthday. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, sisters, husband, and her son. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown and she will be laid to rest under the old oak tree, by her husband and parents, in Rose Hill Cemetery. There will be a reception at Mitchell Family Funeral Home following the funeral and burial. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation on Monday, January 1, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home.
