Shirley Elaine Jenkins

Shirley Elaine Jenkins, 85, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Grandview Heights in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2012, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Burial will follow services at theDobson Cemetery near Garwin, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed in Shirleys name to her family. Shirley was born March 5, 1927, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Jason and Alice (Cooper) Thurston. She was raised and educated in the Cedar Falls area. Shirley was united in marriage to the love of her life, Wayne Jenkins, on July 4, 1953. Throughout her lifetime Shirley was employed as a teacher. Shirley enjoyed painting and golfing. She was a member of the Carlton Brethren Church and the Fellowship Baptist Church. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Wayne Jenkins of Marshalltown, her son Michael T. (Teresa) Jenkins of Marshalltown, her grandchildren: Brittany Helsing, Kelsey Jenkins and Casey Jenkins, her siblings: Myrna Fehrman of LeGrand, Iowa, Norma (Richard)McWilliams of Rochester, Minnesota, Dennis (Kathleen) Thurston of Garwin, Iowa, Ellen (Gary) Batten of Des Moines, Iowa, and Gallen Thurston of Colorado. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Jason and Alice Thurston, her son Ronald Helsing and her brother Larry Thurston.
