Shirley Rae Knoll

Shirley R. Knoll, age 93, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on October 28, 2024, at the The Willows of Marshalltown surrounded by her loving family.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday October 31 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Henry Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Shirley Rae Knoll was born September 15, 1931, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Richard and Nellie (Wagner) Wehrman. Shirley attended school in Van Cleve, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1948. On June 29, 1953, she married the love of her live, Earl H. Knoll at St. Mary Catholic Church of Marshalltown. Shirley worked at Marshall Manufacturing for 13 years as a production worker but her most important job over the years was being a stay-at-home mom. She was a proud member of the Women of the Moose, V.F.W, the bowling league, and the Senior Citizen Center. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, making ceramics, playing bingo at the casino, and babysitting her grandkids. Shirley was known as a great cook, and a fanatic of all sports, who most importantly enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son Douglas (Melanie) Knoll; her grandchildren: Samantha McMahon and Steven Knoll, both of Des Moines, Iowa; and her four great-grandchildren: Addison, Mason, Conner, and Emerson “Em.”

Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband Earl Knoll; her parents Richard and Nellie; her sister Wanda Billman; three brothers: Elmer, Marvin, and Lester Wehrman; and both her maternal and paternal grandparents.
