Shirley Munson

Shirley Ann Babe Thomas Hill Munson, 63, of Toledo, Iowa entered into eternal rest at 4:20 a.m. on September 2, 2011 under the Care of Iowa Hospice of Marshalltown with her family by her side in Toledo, Iowa due to a short illness.Visitation and Wake will be held until Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Shirleys home (214 N. Broadway, Toledo, IA 52342). Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Shirley and her family.Shirley was born on March 20, 1948 in Ogema Township in Minnesota. She was the daughter of Emma (Benjamin) Thomas and the late Richard Thomas. She spent her early years in Minnesota and then moved to Traer, Iowa in 1960. Shirley was united into marriage to Daniel Weaver in 1964 and had two children. She raised her children in Traer, Iowa until her divorce in 1971. Shirley met James Jim Hill and after a short courtship, they married in 1974. They had three children and maintained their home in the Tama-Toledo area until their divorce in 1986. She was married to John Munson from 1986 to 2010. Shirley took pride in her profession as a certified Nurses Aide between the years of 1965 and 2000. She shared her joy of caring for others at several care centers including The County Home in rural Toledo, Iowa, Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, Iowa, and Bethesda / Grandview Nursing Home (currently known as the Carrington Place) in Toledo, Iowa. Shirley became an in-home Health Care Aide in 2000, caring for Carl Uchytil until his passing in 2009. She was most happy when with her family and cherished their time together. She loved doing crossword puzzles, playing cribbage with her mother, collecting owls, baking, and listening to Native Flute Music. Shirley will be greatly missed.She is survived by her mother Emma Thomas; Her children: Sheri Morrison, Richard Rich (Irene) Hill, Troy (Jari) Hill, Jamie Flaca Hill-Cervantes, and Jodie Hill; Her 18 grandchildren: Dustin Naiot, Lewis Naniot, Ben Naniot, Zack Naniot, Stephanie Morrison, Randon Hill, Hayley (Brian Holland) Hill, Bryce McCollister, Brydon Hill, Lydia Smith, Tony Cervantes, Serei Bear, Jordan Andy Cervantes, James Hill II, Jaylen Hill, Troy Hill Jr., Trentin Hill, and Tristan Hill; Her Three Great-Grandchildren: Austin Naniot, Westin Verdulla, and Drayton Hill; Her Brothers and Sisters: Richard Sonny (Cindy) Thomas, Sharlene Shug (Bob) Fisher, John Henry Thomas, Devona Bug (Brett) Haskins, Judie Thomas, Julie Thomas, and Tracye Ter Knight.Shirley was preceded in death by her two sisters, Sharon and Patricia Thomas; Her father, Richard H. Thomas Sr.; her uncles and grandparents.
