Shirley Porter

Shirley Jean Porter, 86, formerly of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at St. Frances Reflections Care Center in Titusville, Florida.

Memorial services for Shirley will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Shirley Jean Buhrow was born on July 19, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was the daughter to Lewis E. and Rosa (Vajgrt) Buhrow. After high school, Shirley attended some college courses in music. On June 23, 1957, Shirley was united in marriage to Francis Porter in Laurel. In her early years; Shirley was a telephone switchboard operator and later was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Marshalltown and previously was the Sunday school secretary at Grace Church. Shirley had a love of music, whether it was playing the piano, or singing. She even produced one record. Shirley enjoyed adult coloring books, crosswords, Chinese checkers, reading romance novels and enjoyed playing bean bag toss with her great-grandson.

Shirley is survived by her daughter: Lynda Brockway of Titusville, Florida; granddaughter: Jenifer (Johnathan) Lawless of Titusville and her great-grandson: Ezrah Lawless.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband: Francis; parents: Lewis and Rosa and her son-in-law: Jim Brockway.
