Shirley Ziemke

Shirley Ziemke was born on July 8, 1929 at Clemons, to the parents Louis Nichols and Marie (Thompson) Nichols. She went to high school in Clemons and was the salutorian and Honor Graduate of her class. She attended Chillicathe Business College in Missouri after high school. Shirley married Claire Ziemke in Clemons on December 19, 1948 and the two were married for over 55 years. The farmed at Hubbard and Clemons and later moved to State Center. She worked at West Marshall School District in the lunch room and loved getting to see all of the students. The two later retired and moved to Marshalltown. She was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church.She loved to garden, raise flowers and yard work; in her free time she liked sewing quilting and reading. Baking and cooking was her specialty, pull together large family meals with little to no effort. Her main things were her church, her three sons and their families, her beloved dogs, friends, classmates, and memories with her dear friends Max Nelson and Betty Gooding. Left to cherish her memory is her children; Craig, Gary (Kay), and Kenny (Jill) Ziemke, her grandchildren; Megan, Michelle, Andrew, Todd, Josie, Carter, and Drake. Also her great-grandchildren, Aidan, Madeline, and Lucy. She is preceded in death by her husband Claire, parents, Louis and Marie, and her brother Fred. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at the Marrietta Cemetery at 12:30, with a memorial service held at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.
