Stella I. Storjohann

Stella (Mrs. Alvin) Storjohann, age 93, of Marshalltown, died Sunday night, December 23rd, with her family at her side at the Willows in Marshalltown.           Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Ellcey officiating. Hanegan on May 21st, 1925, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of James Archie and Elizabeth (Rafferty) Hanegan. She was raised in Gladbrook and graduated from the Gladbrook High School in 1943. Stella was the only one of five children to graduate- filling her dad’s heart with pride, he with little money purchased a watch for her to celebrate that accomplishment.           During Christmas furlough, she was united in marriage to Alvin Storjohann on December 30th, 1945. The young couple met while she worked at the Gladbrook Movie Theatre making popcorn. After his return from service, they made Marshalltown their home all of their married lives. She worked alongside of Alvin at the hatchery on 1st Avenue and later at Glick School in the school lunch program.           Stella will be fondly remembered for her sweet disposition and always willing to help others. She put her faith and family first in life with her loving, nurturing ways. Being a peacemaker, she rarely if ever argued.           Left to cherish her memory is Alvin, her loving husband of 72 years (73 on the 30th), her children: Steve (Alecia), Deb Mettlin and David Storjohann all of Marshalltown; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.            In death, Stella rejoined her parents and four siblings.
