Steven “Steve” Rohweder, 62, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away on the morning of August 31, 2023 at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown.

Services for Steve will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in his name may be directed to his family for a later designation. Steven Roger Rohweder was born May 31, 1961 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Roger and Anna Mae (Dettmer) Rohweder. Steve started school in a smaller school in Tama, Iowa. He would later go to Pleasant Hill School in Marshalltown and graduated in 1981. After graduation, Steve stayed on the family farm to live with his parents until his mother passed in March of 2012 and his father in November 2013. After both his parents had passed, Steve stayed with his sisters Lori and Julie for four months until he was able to move into his new Cirsi home on Thomas Drive, Marshalltown in February of 2014. He lived with his housemates Todd, Rene, and Daniel until February 2019 where he had a brief hospital stay and had to reside at Southridge Specialty Care.

Despite any challenges in life, Steve greeted everything with a positive attitude. He was actively involved within REM and the Cirsi programs in Marshalltown. Within Cirsi, Steve was involved within Special Olympics, Dances, Proms, Swimming, trips to the Iowa State Fair, and Bowling. He was constantly listening to music and in his younger years would be up all night on the farm playing his drums and his harmonica. He loved to doodle or as he called it his “bookwork,” beating his family in Pac-Man, playing War and Trouble, shooting hoops, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He always adored holidays because he could see his nieces and nephews who he loved and were his whole world but his favorite holiday by far was his birthday. Steve’s mom referred his birthday as a national holiday where he and his family celebrated with pizza and chocolate cake. He had always the philosophy that nobody was a stranger and once he met you, he remembered you and he remembered you forever. Family was the most important thing to him and it was his job at holiday meals to say the prayer and he always ended it with an amen and a sign of the cross even though he was not catholic.

He is survived by his sisters, Lori (Steve) Sanderson and Julie (Brad) Hooper; his nieces and nephews, Jason (Paula), Jaclyn (Jeff), Jake (Elise), and Katie (Ryan); his great-nieces and nephews, Ashley, Matt, Jordan, Elizabeth, Raelynn, Grady, and one on the way; and his aunts, Caroline and Janet.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Anna Mae; his brother-in-law Kenny; and his grandparents.
