Steven Schmidt

Steven “Steve” Schmidt, 63, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the afternoon of June 11, 2022 at MercyOne Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. Memorial services for Steve will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in Steve’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. Steven Douglas Schmidt was born February 22, 1959 to parents Larry and Janice (Shore) in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the first of five children blessed to their family. Steve attended school within the Baxter School District and later graduated from Baxter High School in 1978. Out of high school, Steve worked for many years at the Baxter Nursing Home. On September 8, 1989, Steve was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sally Hulsizer at the Baxter Congregational Church. Through their union, Steve gained his son Jason. Steve was a hard worker and spent many years working for Swifts in Marshalltown as a meat processor, He was a longtime member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Marshalltown alongside his wife. In his free-time, Steve enjoyed going fishing, bowling, mowing yards and working on cars. In his younger years, he enjoyed coffee trips with his grandmother. Steve was always family oriented, loved to hang out with friends, consistently had a smile on his face and never complained. Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife Sally Schmidt; his son Jason (Brianna Rasmussen) Kutzner; his mother and father, Larry and Janice Schmidt; his siblings, Gary Schmidt, Ed (Deanna) Schmidt, Brian (Julie) Schmidt, and Adam (Connie) Schmidt; his nieces and nephews, Yara, Joseph, and River and Jamie, Marcus (Shelby), and Sydney (Chase Gratopp) Schmidt; his aunt, Joan Smith; his uncle, Dean (Letitia) Shore; numerous cousins; and his special friends, Kathy (Tom) Stotts. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Beulah Schmidt and Leon and Maude Shore; mother and father -in-law, Russell and Mary Alice Hulsizer; and numerous aunts and uncles; and his best friend Doug Dewey.
