Susan Ann Jorgensen

March 28, 1940 — November 15, 2024

Susan Ann Jorgensen, age 84, passed away peacefully at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA on November 15, 2024.


A funeral service is scheduled for Friday November 22, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of State Center, Iowa. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday November 21, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M also at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Susan Ann Jorgensen was born March 28, 1940, in State Center, Iowa to Wilfred (Bill) Haesemeyer and Hilda (Kammeyer) Haesemeyer.


Susan graduated from State Center High School in 1958 and then from Drake University in 1962. It was at Drake where she met her future husband, James (Jim)Jorgensen, at a fraternity/sorority exchange. Susan married Jim, her sweetheart from Iowa State, on December 29, 1962, in State Center, IA where they made their lifelong home. Susan taught 4th and 5th grade at West Marshall Community School district until the birth of her two children, when she then became a doting mother and homemaker.

Susan was well known for her beautiful, powerful singing voice and often performed many solo appearances. She enjoyed many boating weekends on the Mississippi River and skiing trips to Vail, Colorado. Susan was an avid collegiate football and basketball sports fan, always loyal to her favorite Cyclones. She was a lifelong member of PEO, which held a special place in her heart. She was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. Susan and her husband lived part-time for 9 years in their Henderson, Nevada home where they enjoyed retirement until it was time to return full­ time to their hometown of State Center to enjoy family and grandchildren.


Susan is survived by her husband Jim, her children Jeffrey (Brenda) Jorgensen of Flower Mound, TX, Rachel (TJ) Bangs of Huxley, IA, 3 grandchildren Cale Bangs, Alex Bangs, and Amelia Jorgensen, sister-in-law Wendy (Craig) Haesemeyer and nephew CT Haesemeyer. She was preceded in death by her brother Craig Haesemeyer.
