Born Susan Leann Brown on June 8, 1970 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Jerry and Charlene (Worsfold) Brown. She grew up in State Center, where she graduated from West Marshall High School in 1989. She went on to obtain two Associates Degrees in Secretarial and Respiratory Therapy. Later she achieved certifications as a Medical Assistant and EMT. Susan had been working for the Meskwaki Casino Security Department as an EMT.
Susan was united in marriage to Darren Sellers and the couple was blessed with two children: Cassidy and Trevor. They lived together in Conrad, Marshalltown, State Center and Eldora and though divorced, remained friends. They were members of the Methodist church. Susan later reconnected with an old high school classmate, Mark Mitchell and they were united in marriage on October 23, 2021 before his passing in January of 2022.
Susan had a great, goofy sense of humor and loved funny phone calls, silly faces and “bad dad jokes.” She was especially fond of her own dad’s silly quips and quotes like “gold as gold can be” and “purple to match her eyes,” to name a few. She was sweet, loving, caring and understanding, all qualities that made her an excellent mom. She also gave the world’s best hugs. Susan loved watching her kids’ sporting events and was a huge fan of going to the movies, ball games and amusement parks. She was an avid Cardinals fan, as well as a lover of musicals, including Chicago, Footloose and Music Man. She adored spending time with her grandkids, especially taking them to the pool in the summertime.
Left to cherish her memory is her two children: Cassidy (Jacob) Walz of Altoona and Trevor Sellers of Eldora; her grandchildren, Daniel and Isla Walz; her mother, Charlene Brown of State Center; her brothers Russell and Monte Brown, both of State Center and sister, Bobette Cross of Renwick; former spouse Darren Sellers of Eldora and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Susan is preceded in death by her husband, Mark Mitchell and her father, Jerry Brown.
