Tari Carkhuff

Taresa “Tari” Jo Carkhuff, 58, of Albion, Iowa, passed away at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 with family at her side.

Tari was born October 4, 1965 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Sandra Kelley (Swearingen). Tari attended school in Marshalltown, Iowa and later graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1984. From high school, Tari enlisted in the United States Navy. She spent the first half of her career in the Armed Forces. After 15 years in the service, Tari was honorably discharged from service. She worked for Pepsi for many years before working for Casey’s General Store.

Tari never married or had children of her own but she made her own family rescuing as many dogs as she could care for from local shelters. She was also advocating and hard at work to help get dogs to other families for adoptions. She always had a large circle of friends to love and support her and had gotten into playing on softball leagues over the last few years while she was feeling up to par.

Tari is survived by her mother, Sandra Kelley; her brother, Randy (Kenna) Carkhuff; and her uncle, Tom Swearingen.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Jack Swearingen and Marge Tenney along with her step-father Mike Kelley.
