Terry was born on March 23, 1938, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Maurice Wilbur Ruddick and Elva Jane Cockerham Ruddick. He was one of five siblings and shared strong lifelong bonds with Maurice Elvin Ruddick (Shirley), Beverly Jane Ruddick Hawkins (Frank – deceased), Bonita Sue Ruddick DelleDonne (Thomas), and Douglas Ray Ruddick (Brenda).
A proud veteran, Terry served with honor in both the United States Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy as a member of the Naval Seabees. His military career spanned over eight and a half years, including service in Vietnam, and reflected his deep commitment to duty and country.
Following his time in the military, Terry went on to serve 25 years with the U.S. Department of State, building a successful and far-reaching career in government service. His work took him across the globe, where he lived and worked in many countries while serving in American embassies. Known for his professionalism and generous spirit, Terry made a lasting impression on colleagues and diplomats alike. He was especially known for his hospitality, always striving to ensure guests felt welcomed and comfortable, no matter where in the world he was stationed.
After retirement from the government, Terry contracted for 15 years with a dear friend and owner of the Hoover Group, doing Technical Surveillance Countermeasures for many large corporations.
Terry was a loving uncle to 12 nephews and 3 nieces and was cherished by numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. His quiet strength, dry wit, and deep sense of service left a meaningful impact on all who knew him.
He will be remembered with great affection and pride by his family, friends, and those who had the privilege to work alongside him. His legacy of service, humility, and kindness will not be forgotten.
