Terry Mastin

Terry Mastin, age 66, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Des Moines, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022. A visitation for Terry will take place on Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 15 at 10:00 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Leon Cemetery in Leon, Iowa, at 3:00 P.M. Terry was born August 08, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Lavern and Alice Jane (Webster) Mastin. He grew up in Leon, helping out on the family farm from an early age. After graduating from East High School, Terry and his dad started a welding business in Altoona. Their precision and expertise contributed to metal work on several rides at Adventureland theme park, including the hand rails on the teacups and the Tornado. Later Terry went on to a job he truly enjoyed every day as a truck driver. He was able to see the whole country and was always so proud of his profession, especially after earning the Million Mile Award for safe driving. Terry was a simple man and found joy in the small things in life. He was well-known at the local Family Video, YMCA and pawn shop, where he would spend hours. He was an avid lover of coffee, movies and a good conspiracy theory (particularly the existence of Big Foot and UFOs). In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle. A true family man, Terry cherished his two sons and grandchildren. He also dedicated the last several years caring for his mother, who passed just February of this year. Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Terry "TJ" Mastin (Chrissy) of Knoxville and Tim (Jessica) Mastin of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren: Mackenzie, Elijah, Chrissa, Abby, Adriana, Terra and Caleb Mastin; siblings: Julie Gomez of Marshalltown and Danny (Vicki) Mastin of Adel; several nieces and nephews, including special niece Ashley Gibson and his beloved dog and best friend, Max. Terry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Mastin.
