Terry Wayne Winders

Terry Wayne Winders, 70, of Garwin, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at his home under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home and with his loving family by his side. Funeral services for Terry will be on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 9th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time. Terry Winders was born on December 30, 1950 in Charles City, Iowa to Carson and Lenora Shank Winders. Terry graduated from Garwin High School in 1969. On November 1, 1969, Terry was united in marriage to Shirley McWilliams in Conrad. Terry farmed until 1994 and then went to work at GMG schools as a custodian and bus driver. He also worked at the Iowa Veterans Home as a groundskeeper, then transitioning to the power plant department, maintaining the boiler until he retired due to his health in 2012. Terry was a member of the Mid Iowa Antique Power Association and served on the Garwin School Board. He enjoyed fishing, camping and restoring antique tractors. Terry and Shirley rode horses together on cattle drives and enjoyed dancing as well. Terry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley. Children: Gabriel Winders of Garwin, Amanda (Andy) Rast of Clarksville, Tennessee and Jessica (Jonathan) Hardy of Sparta, Wisconsin. Grandchildren: Kendra Savage, Terry (Naomi Hoskey) Winders, McKenzie Bown, Lane Winders, Lucius Rast, Linus Rast and Rourke Hardy. He is also survived by a great grandson: Cayden Savage; siblings: Dennis (Cathy) Barnes, Doug (Sharon Parks) Winders and a brother-in-law, Robin Haege as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Carson and Lenora and sister, Trudie Haege.
