She was the daughter of William and Ruth (Traffely) Petzold. Thelma attended school in the Des Moines School District graduating from Des Moines North High School. On August 15, 1936, Thelma was united in marriage to George R. Bryant at Des Moines First Church of the Nazarene. They made their family home over the years in Des Moines, Centerville, and Marshalltown -- living here the last 25 years. She worked for many years at Fantles, Look Magazine, and for the Meredith Publishing Corporation in Des Moines. Thelma enjoyed ceramic painting, sewing, letter writing and sharing Scripture. She and George loved to travel and often visited family living out of state. She enjoyed cooking and hosting and was very good at it, but above all else, she loved and enjoyed her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren often sought her sage advice. She enjoyed desserts and sweets, especially at the holidays, and when presented with a choice of several, with a twinkle in her eye she was known to request a sliver of each, which her family lovingly refers to as a TLB. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Beverly Eichorn of Marshalltown, Gary (Joy) Bryant of Marshalltown, and James (Christine) Bryant of California; her grandchildren: Karen (Judson) Jakobitz of Minnesota, Denise (Ty) Lasher of Kansas, Cheryl (Dave) Freel of Marshalltown, Jeff (Heidi) Eichorn of Ames, Shelly (Mike) Walton of Marshalltown, Kelly Newcomb of Garwin, Eric (Jenni) Bryant of Nebraska, Meredith (Matt) Mylott of Missouri, Jeremy (Melissa) Bryant of California, Sarah (Buck) Heater of California, Ben (Molly) Bryant of California, and Catherine Bryant of Kansas; her great-grandchildren: Joshua Jakobitz, Janae (Brody) Bell, Alex and Jenna Lasher, Garrett Koehn, Chad (Sarah) Eichorn, Drew (Anna) Eichorn, Jessica (fianc Nolan Benzing) Walton, Sydney Walton, Madelyn and Bryce Newcomb, Jessie and Ross Hutcheson, Austin and Camden Mylott, Kayden, Keaton, Kenton and Kharrington Bryant, Megan, Mason, and Jaxson Heater, and great great-grandchildren: Walker and Max Eichorn, Lillemor Eichorn, and Tory Bell. In death, Thelma joins her parents, William and Ruth; her husband, George; her brother, William; her sister, Nettie; infant granddaughter, Wendy Beth Bryant; her daughter-in-law, June Bryant; and her son-in-law, Jud Eichorn.
