Thelma Kelly

The joyful spirit of Thelma Kelly, 90, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of August 7, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Services for Thelma will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in Thelma’s name may be directed to Iowa River Hospice or the Marshalltown Public Library. Thelma Jean Meyer was born January 2, 1931 to parents Robert and Elsie (Dodge) Meyer in Melbourne, Iowa. She attended Rhodes High School and graduated in the class of 1948 as the Valedictorian for her class. She attended Central Iowa Business College following High School. On December 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Glenn Kelly in Baxter, Iowa. The two moved to Marshalltown and began a family raising their children Ann and Paul. Thelma worked for Brenton Bank over the course of 30 years serving various roles including assistant vice president when she retired in 1992. Thelma also enjoyed her time of volunteer work between the Marshalltown Public Library and the Marshalltown Hospital. In her free time, she was an avid reader, loved working on crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, maintaining her yard, spending time with her family and the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She thought of others before herself, was very intellectual in a wide array of subjects, as well as being strong and independent. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her husband Glenn; her children, Ann (Ronald) Kearse and Paul (Kim) Kelly; her grandchildren, John (Lindsay) Kearse, Matthew (Rachel) Kearse, Nicole (Boun) Baccam and Michele (Andrew) Davis; her 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings Colleen (Ray) Goodman and Harold Meyer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Elsie Meyer and her brother Russell Meyer. The family wishes to extend gratitude to Iowa River Hospice for the exceptional care that they provided for Thelma and her family.
