Thelma Siemens

Thelma Siemens, 85, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on the morning of Saturday, June 1, 2013, while in care of the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center and hospice. Her death came peacefully at 4:00 a.m. with family at her side.Memorial services and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, AUGUST 3rd, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery immediately following. There will be no visitation. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.Born on January 19, 1928, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was the only daughter born to Harry and Annis (Gaines) Gillgam. Her mom was married later to Harold Winter, the man she knew as dad. She received her education in the St. Joseph Parochial School in Haverhill.On May 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Eldon Siemens in Traer. They made their home at Marshalltown where they farmed and raised six wonderful children. After they were raised, she began a career spanning 30 years in dietary at the Iowa Veterans Home, retiring at age 72.Thelma enjoyed gardening and her Schnauzers, but loved and treasured her family. She will be greatly missed by all of them.Left to cherish her memory are her children: George (Carol) Siemens of Minnetonka, MN, Annis (Jim) Graham of Helotes, Texas, Rosemary (Dennis) Shirk of Niles, Michigan, John (Stevie) Siemens of San Antonio, TX, Dirk (Denise) Siemens of Marshalltown and Harlan (LeAnn) Siemens of Marshalltown, as well as 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren (and one on the way), three great-great-grandchildren and many friends and past co-workers from IVH.In death, she rejoined Eldon and her parents.
