Thomas “Tom” Campbell, age 80, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 28, 2025 with his family at his side.


Services for Tom will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Casual, Iowa State, Kansas City Chiefs or Camo attire is encouraged for those attending. A visitation for family and friends will be held beginning at 10:00 A.M. Thomas Earl Campbell was born May 24, 1944 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the seventh of eight children born to Dale and Goldie “Maxine” (Foreman) Campbell. Tom grew up in Laurel, Iowa where he would attend school, graduating from Laurel High School in the Class of 1963.


On September 18, 1964, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judy Kvinlaug in Laurel, Iowa. Together they created a home in Marshalltown, Iowa where they lovingly raised their three children, Paul, Lory and Wendy. Tom began a business of his own, Campbell Construction where he became a name to know in the City of Marshalltown for his innovative designs and helped create entire housing developments and cul-de-sacs throughout the city. Outside of his craft, Tom was heavily involved in many organizations over the years including the NRA (National Rifle Association), Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, the National Turkey Federation and the American Paint Horse Association.


Tom enjoyed his outdoors where he was an avid fisherman and hunter over many years. He additionally enjoyed woodworking and having his hand involved in many vehicle restorations over the years. He loved to raise and care for many horses over the years. Above all other things the most important thing was his family and he was sure to make it to as many of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events over the years.


Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Campbell; his children, Lory (Travis) Harre and Wendy Atcher; grandchildren, TJ (Laura) Harre, Taylor (Cory) Madison, Tamera (Grant) Wittmer, Chase Atcher, Lainey Harre, Libby Atcher, Emma Campbell and Cole Harre; Great-grandchildren, Aubrea Madison, Ava Madison, Kinze Wittmer, Kooper Wittmer, Kolt Wittmer and Oliver Harre. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Jackie Campbell and his sister-in-law, Karen Smith alongside numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


He is preceded in death by his son, Paul Campbell; his parents, Dale and Maxine Campbell; his brothers, Larry Gerald, Dwayne and Dennis Campbell; sisters, Judy Olney and Carol McGrew; his niece, Sherry McGrew Runge and nephew, Justin Campbell, his mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Bernadine Kvinlaug; sister-in-law, Mary Campbell and Ila Campbell and brother-in-law, Johnny Smith; and his special pal and longtime furry companion, Dusty.
