Born Thomas Edward Jacobs on November 29, 1956 in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Dr. Edward L. Jacobs and Betty L. (Cupp) Jacobs. He was the youngest of three brothers, who grew up in Marshalltown and stayed close their whole lives. After graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1976, he attended the University of Iowa. He obtained his EMT certification from Marshalltown Area Community Hospital and then completed the paramedic program in Johnson County.

Tom was a very compassionate man who was always willing to help people. This translated into his 30-year career as a paramedic for Johnson County Ambulance Service (JCAS). In his free time, Tom loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, turkey hunting and scuba-diving. He was also an avid reader. Tom loved people in general and never knew a stranger. He also was very family-oriented and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Tom is survived by his mother, Betty Jacobs of Marshalltown; his brothers, Douglas Jacobs of Ankeny and Craig Jacobs of Marshalltown and “special brother” Robert Weeces; his former spouse Sharon and her children, Chad and Melissa; his “special son” Gianni Comito; his niece Carrie and nephew Andrew, as well as five great-nieces and great-nephews and several cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father Dr. Edward Jacobs, his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sienicki and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
