Thomas “Tom” Koch, 64, of Eldora, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the afternoon of Sunday, September 29, 2024 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines.


Per Tom’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services are planned at this time. Memorials in Tom’s name may be directed to his family for a later designation. Thomas Alan Koch was born July 23, 1960 in Eldora, Iowa. He was the youngest of four children born to Duane and Lorraine (Schaa) Koch. Tom grew up on their family farm around the Union/Whitten area and rural Hardin County. He attended school in Union/Whitten through 11th grade when he joined the United States Navy. He finished his last year of school while in the service while stationed in San Diego on the USS Cook from 1977-1981. After four years, he was honorably discharged from service. Upon his return home, Tom resided in Britt, Iowa.


He was united in marriage to LuAnn Lovig and they moved to Holiday Florida. Tom and LuAnn had two children, Shawn and Brandon. The two later divorced. Tom worked for various skilled and assisted living facilities as a nurse’s aide while in Florida for over thirty years. In 2014, Tom returned to Iowa and resided in Eldora, Iowa. In May 2024, Tom retired from work officially. In his free time, he enjoyed staying active and participated in tennis games, going for runs, swimming at the beach, and riding bicycles. He was always staying active within one way or the other. He was an avid lover of dogs and in younger years liked to go out on the weekends for dances.


Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Shawn Koch and Brandon Koch and his siblings, Linda Koch, Larry Koch and Connie Blanau.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Lorraine Koch; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his aunt, Beverly Hogle.
