Thomas Joseph Leavy, Jr, died unexpectedly at his home, late Monday night, September 8th. A Funeral Mass will becelebrated at 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 12th at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jim Miller,officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. Born April 9, 1947 in Dublin, Ireland to Thomas & Kathleen (Teeling) Leavy, Thomas came to the United Stated with his family in 1955. He recently retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 35 years of service. Thomas was a fun and charming man who made fast friends and acquaintances. He was a free spirited person who enjoyed nature, cooking and story telling. Thomas was a self educated man who poured over newspapers and periodicals. He was in tune to current events and was an intensly interesting person to encounter with a hopeful and optimistic view of humanity. We, his family, find ourselves looking back on a father who had a very full and complete life. He was the center and pivot point of our family, who rejoiced in our successes and forgave our mistakes and shortcomings. We will miss him sorely and hope to carry on his greatness in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Left to cherish his memory are Jill, his wife, and his children:Patty (Robin) Weidner of Marshalltown, Bridget Miller of Marshalltown , Joseph Leavy & Angie Hamilton of Urbandale, Carrie Stocks of Littleton, Colorado, Jack Leavy & Chelsea McMillen of Ames,Tami (Bernie) Boesch of San Diego, California. Also surviving, hismother, Kathleen Leavy of Marshalltown and siblings: Robert (Suzanne) Leavy of Vining, Nuala (Greg) Smith of Marshalltown, Larry (Robin) Leavy of Independence, Mo, John Leavy of Marshalltown, Brian Leavy of Marshalltown, Emmet (Jennifer) Leavy of North Liberty, Richard (Angie) Leavy of Marshalltown and Tracy Leavy of Waukee. He is also survived by grandchildren: Nicholas , Paige, Jordan, Evan, Kenyon, Memphis, Meriel, Jazlyn and Ben. Also surviving, numerous nieces and nephews and close many close friends.
